Meet Stefano


Stefano is a Planning Manager in our Planning and Allocation Department.  He is responsible for providing managerial leadership for a department(s) to create optimal mix and flow as well as optimizing store mix to maximize profitable sales. Builds effective teams through ongoing coaching, training and development of Associates.

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Planning Manager we’d ask you to do the following:


50% Managerial Leadership and Talent Development

  • Acts as an effective role model for the Analysts and Associate Planners regarding core company values; fosters sharing of ideas from all levels. Recognizes need to step in as leader beyond immediate scope of responsibility when necessary.
  • Maintains focus; keeps priorities clear and simple.  Partners with AVP to ensure department resources (staff, production, technology) are aligned to meet the business needs.
  • Operational and managerial coaching of a planning team to achieve: weekly shipping strategies; monthly inventory targets; sales targets.
  • Provide context, direction, priorities and coaching to a team of associates (delegate as required; develop all members of team; facilitate problem solving of others).
  • Monitors business performance of multiple departments’ goals to achieve and align with company goals.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Provides on going managerial coaching and leadership of a team ( Associate Planner, Allocation Analyst)
  • Ensures each associate has a development plan that supports their growth and career aspirations.


40% Strategic Skills: Planning & Analysis

  • Executes sales and profit objectives.  Implement business plans that reflect the merchandise strategy of the Department’s business vision.  Helps to set direction, thinks for the future, displays global thinking and risk taking.  Sets direction, thinks for the future, displays global thinking and risk taking: Drive a vision towards an end goal. 
  • Develop, implement, drive and monitor (unit and dollar) sales and inventory business plans that reflect the merchandise strategies and drive profitability for a group of departments.
  • Challenges and suggests revisions to pre-season and in season ladder plans and dollar plans, supports rationale, "Thinks outside the Box".  Works in partnership with counterparts to provide resources for identifying opportunities and maintaining differentiation.
  • Frequently shops stores and competition as a tool to asses BFQP, identify and surfaces trends/new business opportunities.
  • Anticipate, influence and challenge inventory flow within departments through: sales & inventory plans;  trends; inbound flow chart; liases with Merchants , DC and production partners to evaluate/influence/improve current and future processes.
  • Translates, builds, develop and challenge a seasonal ladder plan that accurately reflects the DMM merchandise strategy and is aligned with the financial plan
  • Assesses the viability of new business ventures and providing results and recommendations to AVP, VP, DMM and GMM.
  • Using a broad range of information, drive strategic analysis to identify merchandise/store opportunities to maximize results (6-12 months out; $/square footage; Trade-offs between businesses; Category opportunities; Conversions; Average ticket; Trends; Product info, Differentiation).
  • Performs special projects as assigned.


10% Operational Skills

  • Understands the concepts that direct the Unit Plan system.  Effectively utilizes this knowledge to enhance business strategies
  • New Stores/Reno: Set-up, verification of floor plans, monitors process and stay ahead of their needs.  
  • Oversees a planning team to monitor; weekly shipping strategies, focus stores, monthly inventory EOM and sales
  • Monitors financial and unit open to buy
  • Manages the flow of receipts ensure that the on order and holding are accurate. Evaluates seasonality, prioritize critical need classification thru the DC, anticipates MD, and monitors average retail
  • Develops and manages lower level plans (zone/store lists/store) to ensure appropriate flow to all stores. 
  • Challenges and manages store selection to support events/initiatives (ex. BTS, Mother’s Day)
  • Demonstrates systems competency and is able to train associates, recognize problems, identify when particular functionality is not effective
  • Monitors the volume bands to ensure the stores remain within the range by department.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.

  • College business diploma or University degree (preferred) and 3-5 years of Planning experience.
  • Solid understanding of business tools and reports.
  • Well versed in all aspects of off-price retailing including merchandising, store operations, retail industry and product knowledge.
