Purpose/ Job Summary

The position is focused on Markdown forecasting and analysis. Markdowns are one of the largest and high-profile costs within the TJX P&L and requires an individual who is able to be excellent on detail yet have the ability to think strategically in order to move this ever-evolving area forward.

 

Its high-profile nature leads to business partnering with key functions such as Merchandising & Buying, as well as continual partnering with IT with the introduction of new tools for reporting & analysis. In addition, to successfully complete this role a broader understanding of Gross Margin and all its underlying components will be required.

 

This role reports into a Finance Manager and part of the role is to support them with all their responsibilities as well as ad-hoc requests. The role requires cross-functional partnering with other sub teams of Financial Control and across Finance. Potential for a direct report.

 

 

Key Responsibilities/Tasks

  • Full ownership of the Mark Down forecasting and reporting; preparation of the weekly Markdown forecast, explaining key variances based on previous weeks buying and analysing the future Markdown risk or opportunity for the Quarters
  • Communicating key messages in relation to Mark Down variances to key stakeholders, especially Merchandising.
  • Partnering with Finance Buying & Analysis group to understand the key buying trends and determining what impact this has on Markdown.
  • Preparation and Analysis of Monthly Markdown presentations to present back to key Finance & Business stakeholders
  • Partner with Financial Accounts & Inventory Control and be able to fully explain and reconcile the differences between the Forecast and Actuals.
  • Preparation of ad-hoc analysis per the direction of Financial Control management. Proactively suggest additional areas of analysis as needed.
  • Ownership of the Markdown Forecast updates and Budget submission. Collaborate with BP&A to manage the timing and content of this.

 

 

Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • University degree or equivalent – accounting qualification would be a plus
  • Extensive experience, in retail would be a plus
  • Working knowledge of a forecast / reporting tool, such as Power BI
  • Expertise with computers incl. data management/methods
  • Advanced Excel and systems skills are a necessity
  • Developed analytical skills
  • Capability to work with large quantities of data in various formats and manipulate into relevant and useable outputs. The analyst will be required to evaluate and make recommendations rather than simply providing reports.
  • Ability to maintain and develop financial models
  • The ability to escalate issues and assist in resolving them
  • The ability to multitask, prioritize and work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to develop relationships at all levels of the business
